Kristen Farrell Awarded AHA Fellowship

Kristen Farrell, pictured with her advisor Santiago Di Pietro, was recently awarded an American Heart Association Fellowship to support her PhD studies on the mechanism of endocytosis.  Kristen’s project title is “Characterization of UBX3 as a novel component of the plasma membrane remodeling machinery.”  Kristen performed a fluorescence microscopy-based screening for novel proteins involved in clathrin-mediated endocytosis in yeast cells.  Following this approach she obtained several new candidate components of the endocytic machinery and identified UBX3 as the strongest candidate. During this fellowship Kristen will explore the physiological significance and functional partners of UBX3 in endocytosis.
